What It Took To Restore The Aprilia RS250
This machine was a low-mileage (4000) motorcycle, owned for only two years, and in storage for close on two decades. Luckily, the team decided to undertake a full engine strip-down before attempting to start, as a carb float had stuck and flooded the exhausts to the brim with fuel! It rapidly became clear to the team that a total full restoration was in order. After a full inspection, the machine was subjected to a painstaking deep clean, with every component, nut, bolt, and electrical system reconditioned or replaced with new. A deep clean, removal of oxidisation, repaint, and original decal application was necessary. Despite having its full ownership, there were no keys to this vintage sports Aprilia, having been lost to the ravages of time. We decided to streamline the process. Instead of ordering a new lock set, which would mean several individual keys for ignition, seat etc., we used new Aprilia key blanks, working with an expert specialist locksmith, to cut new keys specifically to seamlessly match the original bike lock set.
